Let’s discover the 8 Greek winning projects

Eight innovative projects have been selected in Greece in the framework of the DETOUR mini grants programme to develop new tourism experiences along the Network of Mountain trails around Mount Olympus, Kissavos and Mavrovouni.

Bringing together local tourism businesses operating in walking and cycling tourism, the projects focus on local gastronomy, beekeeping, nature discovery and developing digital tools, transforming Thessaly’s rich natural and cultural assets into innovative tourism products.

Coordinated by the Greek Mediterranean Center of Environment, the lead partners of the selected projects met in Larissa for their kick off meeting on Monday, 5 October 2026.

The initiatives will be implemented through partnerships involving local SMEs and are expected to be completed by June 2027.

The projects will introduce a variety of activities, including digital platforms and interactive maps to help visitors discover local trails and businesses; new hiking and cycling packages connecting mountain landscapes with local gastronomy, cultural heritage and water-related natural attractions; and accessible, multisensory routes designed to make outdoor experiences more inclusive. Other initiatives will promote local agricultural products through food festivals and tasting workshops, offer guided experiences exploring beekeeping and biodiversity, and provide training opportunities for tourism professionals on sustainable practices, accessibility and visitor services.
